Ahead of the formal launch in December, #RelianceJio is testing the waters of its connectivity by offering free high speed ‘#Jionet’ #Wi-Fi connectivity in several areas and gauging users’ feedback. After making it available at the Wankhede stadium during IPL this year, it will now be offering the service at the top-three Ganpati mandals in Mumbai during the 11 day festival.
During Ganesh Utsav, the company will be offering its ‘Jionet’ Wi-Fi service at Lalbaug Cha Raja, Andheri Cha Raja and Sahyadri Cha Raja (Tilak Nagar, Chembur) mandals. Users who visit these mandals will be able to avail this service by just switching on their Wi-Fi and selecting the Jionet Wi-Fi service.
The Wi-Fi service activation will redirect you to a webpage where one will need to register using their name and mobile number. The registered mobile number will get an OTP message, which should then be entered on the webpage. After the OTP is entered, the user will automatically get connected to the high speed Wi-Fi. The validity of the OTP is 24 hours, after which users will have to generate a new OTP to avail the service.
Reliance Jio is doing this test trial to gauge user feedback before it launches its 4G LTE service in December this year. The only telco to commercially launch its 4G service commercially in India yet is Airtel, with Vodafone too set for a launch in December.
Reliance Jio currently holds spectrum in 1800 MHz (across 14 circles) and 2300 MHz (across 22 circles) capable of offering fourth generation (4G) wireless services. It plans on providing seamless 4G services sometime this year using FDD-LTE on 1800 MHz and TDD-LTE on 2300 MHz through an integrated ecosystem. It is also encouraging smartphone manufacturers to make smartphones in India, and it has promised to buy the entire stock and sell it under its ReConnect brand.
